The killing of Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif by Israeli forces in a “targeted strike” in Gaza last week sparked outrage from media organisations, humanitarian groups and foreign governments.

As a ceasefire in Gaza took hold in January, Anas Al-Sharif began removing his protective gear live on television, piece by piece, while a jubilant crowd cheered, hoping the day marked the end of the suffering of 2 million Palestinians in the enclave.

Israel’s military has targeted and killed an Al Jazeera correspondent and others with an airstrike as they sheltered outside a Gaza City hospital.
