President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi warned on Sunday Egypt may be forced to re-evaluate its $8 billion programme with the IMF if international institutions do not take into account the extraordinary regional challenges the country is facing.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi highlighted on Sunday 20/10/2024 Egypt’s program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), noting that the country may “review the situation” with global lender if the ongoing challenges pose unbearable burden on the public.

Abdel Ghaffar noted that 14 health initiatives have benefited 94 million citizens. For the first time, Egypt's birth rate has dropped to 2.5 children per woman, with expectations to reach 2.1 by 2030. He reported a decline of 149,000 births in 2023 compared to 2022.

The IMF's fourth review of Egypt's $8 billion loan is postponed until after its annual meetings. The loan, initially approved in 2022, was expanded due to inflation and currency shortages. Egypt's Prime Minister confirms mission delay was mutual and states set targets were achieved.

Egypt’s president suggested its International Monetary Fund program might need to be reviewed if economic pressures place an intolerable burden on the country’s more than 106 million people.
