With heavy winds leading to small blazes elsewhere in Southern California, fire crews battling the Palisades and Eaton fires were able to make small gains in containment of both fires overnight into Tuesday morning, Jan. 21.

Initially, more than 200,000 people were under mandatory evacuation orders, but most orders were lifted as fire containment lines were dramatically increased. The two largest fires remain active, the Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades and the Eaton Fire near Pasadena.
