India has lodged a strong protest with Dhaka over a now-deleted social media post by a key aide of Bangladesh's interim government that claimed certain areas of Indian territory should be part of that country.

In the post that has been deleted, Mahfuj Alam had used a map showing some Indian territories as part of Bangladesh.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned remarks by Bangladeshi aide Mahfuj Ala, emphasising the need for responsible public comments. India expressed interest in fostering relations with Bangladesh’s interim government and registered a strong protest over the issue.

Notably, Bangladesh is currently facing a tumultuous period following a student-led movement that led to the ousting of Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The movement was sparked by a series of violent incidents,

Addressing a press conference, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We have registered our strong protest on this issue with the Bangladesh side. We understand that the post being referred to has reportedly been taken down.

MEA strongly responded to a post of Bangladeshi leader Mahfuz Alam in which he claimed to annex some parts of India. The post was later deleted by Alam.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, Alam had suggested that India should acknowledge the uprising that led to the resignation of then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
