The heavy snowfall left many tourists stranded on highways. In a heartening display of compassion, locals in the Kulgam and Anantnag districts opened their homes and mosques to provide shelter. Food and heating arrangements were organised by Kashmiris to assist those caught in the freezing conditions.

Kashmir has been cut off from the rest of the country following heavy snowfall. Tourists have faced hours-long traffic jams and unpredictable weather conditions.

Moderate to heavy snowfall has been recorded across Kashmir since Friday, including the season's first snowfall in Srinagar city and other plain areas of the valley.

As intense cold wave-like conditions prevail across Kashmir, Srinagar received season’s first snowfall on Friday. It recorded -7.3°C on Thursday night, the MeT department said.
