Minnesota Wild captain Jared Spurgeon is expected to miss two to three weeks with an apparent right leg injury.

The Minnesota Wild continue to deal with injuries and different levels of inability so more roster shuffling is on the way.

The Wild will be without defenseman Jared Spurgeon for two to three weeks due to a lower-body injury, Minnesota president of hockey operations Bill Guerin told reporters Thursday. The team's captain suffered an apparent right leg injury Tuesday when he was slew-footed by Nashville rookie forward Zachary L'Heureux and rammed feet-first into the boards.

Captain Jared Spurgeon has avoided serious injury and will only miss two to three weeks with a lower-body injury, Wild hockey boss Bill Guerin told reporters Thursday.

Coach John Hynes called it a “cheap hit” and “undisciplined” play, but didn’t have an official update on Spurgeon after the game. The NHL Department of Player Safety will surely look at the hit, which drew L’Heureux a match penalty. “It didn’t look good,” Hynes said.

Chasing a puck to the left of Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson, Spurgeon was tripped from behind into the end boards by Predators rookie Zach L’Heureux. The Wild defenseman went legs-first into the wall and landed awkwardly. He required assistance to get off the ice.

General manager Bill Guerin called Spurgeon “week to week” without going into further specifics about the injury other than confirming surgery will not be required.
