The Detroit Lions soap opera of injuries continues, but this time around it's with some optimism. Running back David Montgomery may not have suffered a season-ending injury after all as there is a "path forward" to a quicker recovery according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

The Detroit Lions ’ hopes that David Montgomery could return from a knee injury originally thought to require season-ending surgery got a boost Thursday as the running back reportedly received a medical opinion allowing him to rehab the knee instead.

In the last two offseasons, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has been one of the hottest potential head coaching candidates around the NFL. He's interviewed for positions with multiple teams, but ultimately has returned to Detroit for a variety of reasons.

Ben Johnson is locked into his duties as Lions offensive coordinator, but was asked about head coaching aspirations. "I think there's a burning desire in every man to find what he's made out of," he said.
