Brace for impact: Sony is raising prices on PS5 consoles, like Nintendo and Microsoft before it
On August 20 — just hours before the tech world dialed into the Made by Google Pixel 10 launch — Sony announced that it's raising the recommended prices for PS5 consoles by $50 for U.S. retailers. The new prices will likely take effect starting Thursday, August 21, though retailers may implement the new prices at different times.
Sony has shared that it's raising the prices of the base PS5, base PS5 Digital Edition, and the PS5 Pro in the USA. Going into effect tomorrow, 21st August, the increased prices are as follows:
With PlayStation set to increase PS5 console prices this week, this Call of Duty PS5 Slim bundle deal offers even better value now.
Sony has announced something we’ve been expecting all along, and that’s increase the price of the PS5 console. This increase applies to all PlayStation 5 console variants. The price increase in the US will take effect tomorrow, August 21, which means if you’re on the fence on picking one up, best to do it today.
GSC Game World has released a new trailer announcing that the PS5 version of the game, revealed earlier this summer, will launch on November 20, 2025, the first anniversary of its release on PC and Xbox Series X|S.

A PS5 page for Euro Truck Simulator 2 has been spotted (thanks jack_jab on Reddit), suggesting that an announcement is imminent. The listing doesn't have a product description yet, or a release date — but you can add the title to your wishlist.
That means, from August 21, the price of the standard PS5 console will increase from $499.99 to $549.99. The cheaper PS5 Digital Edition will also see a jump from $449.99 to $499.99. Lastly, the premium PS5 Pro will leap from $699.99 to $749.99 – yikes.
