Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach, Florida, are taking different approaches to spring break. One city is welcoming college students while the other is telling them to go somewhere else.

Spring Breakers are coming to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, one of the nation’s hot spots for the annual spring ritual that sees college students head for bikini-weather coasts in search of paradise.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - Spring break has officially kicked off in parts of South Florida, and local leaders want visitors to know the rules and keep the peace.

Fort Lauderdale has introduced a series of new rules for spring break visitors. Alcohol and coolers are now banned on the sand, along with electric scooters, tents, tables, and loud music.

“Fort Lauderdale is probably the top spring break spot in the country,” said Cadence Woolfork, a 19-year-old University of Kentucky student. “Come to Laudy! It’s so much fun.

So far, Fort Lauderdale plans to raise their parking fees during spring break, as hefty as $100 a day. Commissioners are expected to have a final vote on March 5.
