Elon Musk's X has updated its terms of service to steer any disputes by users of the social media platform formerly known as Twitter to a federal court in Texas whose judges frequently deliver victories to conservative litigants in political cases.

As the social media company makes changes to its terms of service, it seeks to keep legal disputes in a friendly forum

In the 1980s and 1990s, tort reform became a talking point for Texas Republicans, who believed that trial lawyers, mad with power (and conveniently, allies of Democrats), were abusing a Texas civil justice system that they saw as too friendly to consumers by bringing too many cases against companies, costing taxpayers in the process.

Elon Musk sued Media Matters over a truthful report that ads had run against racist and far-right tweets. A Texas judge unexpectedly ruled in Musk's favor by refusing to dismiss the case earlier this year.
