With the New England Patriots officially hiring Mike Vrabel on Sunday, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson remains the top candidate to land a head-coaching job this offseason. Over the last three years under Johnson's watch, the Lions' offense has finished in the top five in total yards and points per game.

The question hanging over the entire process is why anyone would want the Bears head coaching position right now. Team chairman George McCaskey isn’t wrong with his smug opinion that when the Bears call people listen. But the idea of the Bears — all that history — is a lot different than the reality of the Bears — all that losing.

Earlier in the week, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was part of a viral prank. A group of kids texted Williams pretending to be Johnson and in the text, they sent messages saying that Johnson was going to get the Bears job. The kids even received a FaceTime call from Williams after the messages were sent.
