Nine workers killed in Colombia coal mine explosion
The national mining agency had warned weeks earlier that a buildup of gases at the mine could become dangerous.
At least twelve miners are trapped inside a coal mine in central Colombia, officials said Monday night, following an explosion that was caused apparently by the accumulation of gases.
The explosion is the latest accident in the locality of Sutatausa, the site of another deadly mine disaster in 2023.
The explosion happened on Saturday afternoon at the Las Quintas mine in Pueblo Viejo, a village in Cucunuba municipality.
