Light snow is expected in parts of north central and northeast Illinois Thursday with higher accumulation in Indiana where between 1 to 3 inches may affect travel in the afternoon into the evening, National Weather Service officials said.

Today will be mostly cloudy with a chance of light snow south of I-80, while the next storm system is expected to impact central Illinois and Indiana more significantly than Chicago.

A high-impact winter storm is expected to affect the region from Saturday night through Monday morning, bringing all winter weather types, including heavy snow, significant freezing rain, and sleet, with widespread 6+ inch snowfall totals expected.
