The Penguin episode 4 takes us to Arkham with a full flashback episode dedicated to Sofia Falcone, and includes some familiar comic book characters along the way. One of the fellow inmates who Sofia meets behind bars is the chirpy Magpie, who ends up being her next door cell neighbor.

The Penguin gave a small role to an obscure Batman villain from the pages of DC Comics, the crazed jewel thief known as Magpie.

The Penguin Episode 4 explores how Sofia Falcone ended up in Arkham, where she met an inmate with a familiar name for Batman fans: Magpie.

Magpie is a lower-level Batman villain who first showed up in The Man of Steel #3. She really hasn’t been prominently featured in much of the comics or in the on-screen DC unive

It feels counterintuitive, but it’s quite a joy knowing that you don’t have to hunt through the Batman spin-off looking for Easter eggs. Here’s a great example: Episode 4 took viewers to Arkham Asylum and didn’t show us the Joker.

But the majority of the episode actually takes place ten years prior to The Penguin's present-day events, instead focusing on a younger Sofia as she's framed for murder by her father, crime lord Carmine Falcone (played by John Turturro in The Batman and now played by Mark Strong in flashbacks).

The Penguin is packed with Easter eggs that hint at some potential villains who could show up in Matt Reeves' The Batman Part II, including Clayface, Poison Ivy and Doctor Strange.
