Sheldon John, 38, died Friday morning after he was stabbed on a subway train following a dispute, in what officials say is the subway system's first homicide of the year.

A man was fatally stabbed in the chest in a Lower Manhattan subway station during Friday morning rush hour, police and sources said. The victim, 38, was attacked on the southbound No. 5 train in the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall subway station near Centre and Chamber streets at 8:37 a.
