The 49ers signed quarterback Nate Sudfeld to a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday. In a corresponding move, the 49ers placed running back Patrick Taylor on season-ending injured reserve. Taylor dislocated his shoulder in last week's preseason game and was due to miss multiple weeks.

Sudfeld will be key for the final week of the preseason, in which it appears QB2 Mac Jones may be missing after a knee injury last week. This is another stint with the 49ers for Sudfeld. He was on the San Francisco practice squad in 2021, then stayed with the 'Niners through 2022 training camp before being cut.
