HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Travelers at Hawaii airports experienced delays and cancellations due to severe weather Thursday. Hawaii News Now issued a First Alert Weather Day from Wednesday night through Friday morning as a strong winter storm moves through Hawaii.

The severe storm caused a temporary ground stop in and out of Honolulu airport today, resulting in hours-long delays and cancellations.

Hawaiian Airlines' 4,983-mile domestic route will be operated by the Boeing 787 between April 22 and Aug. 20. The 787 replaces the airline's Airbus A330-200 that's historically been used on this route.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Oahu until 12:15 p.m. At 11:41 a.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Waimanalo and Hawaii Kai, moving northeast at 35 mph.

HONOLULU (Island News) -- Hawaiian Airlines laid off 61 non-contract employees yesterday as a result of the Alaska Airlines merger. With the layoffs, Hawaiian gave these employees Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices as their six-month interim role with the combined company will be completed on March 17.
