Magpie is played by actress Marié Botha, who is a relative newcomer to film and television, in The Penguin. Botha's primary credits to this point are in short films, but she did also guest star in an episode of Apple TV+'s Dickinson alongside Hailee Steinfeld and play a leading role in the 2022 feature film Highway One.

The Penguin gave a small role to an obscure Batman villain from the pages of DC Comics, the crazed jewel thief known as Magpie.

It feels counterintuitive, but it’s quite a joy knowing that you don’t have to hunt through the Batman spin-off looking for Easter eggs. Here’s a great example: Episode 4 took viewers to Arkham Asylum and didn’t show us the Joker.

The Penguin is packed with Easter eggs that hint at some potential villains who could show up in Matt Reeves' The Batman Part II, including Clayface, Poison Ivy and Doctor Strange.
