A 22-year-old man suffered severe lacerations to his legs and lower stomach when the tire of an NJ Transit bus blew out at Port Authority, shattering glass in the gate area, according to sources with knowledge of the incident.

The tire ruptured on a Route 190 bus that was scheduled to leave at 6:05 p.m. for Broadway Bus Terminal in Paterson and broke some glass at the gate, said Anjali Hemphill, an NJ Transit spokesperson. Bus terminal gates are glass-enclosed waiting areas between roads in the terminal.
