On March 11, 2011, Hawaii experienced the impact of a tsunami triggered by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake off Japan's coast.

Hawaii’s regularly-scheduled warning sirens that get tested at the beginning of every month will still be conducted on Friday, Aug. 1 at 11:45 a.m.

The Salvation Army served 770 meals for breakfast at tsunami shelters across the islands up until the advisory was lifted.
