As millions of Americans hunker down for the winter storm, 19 states and Washington, D.C., have declared states of emergency.

Rock Hill and York County saw several inches of snowfall and dangerously cold temperatures Jan. 31 as a second winter storm in a week passed through.

Horry County can expect snow to fall for hours, according to the National Weather Service. The area will also receive extreme cold temps.

Some felt fatigued. Others were excited, as puffy white flakes floated down from the sky. Either way, North Carolina and South Carolina were bracing for a rare burst of cold and snow.

Another round of winter weather is expected to move into north Georgia this weekend, bringing snow, bitter cold, and hazardous travel conditions to much of the region, including the Atlanta metro area.

The upcoming weather event may compare with the snow storm of Jan. 16-17, 2022 in terms of snow accumulations.
