Heading into their co-headlining bout at UFC Fight Night 257, former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling knew what Brian Ortega was up to.

Aljamain Sterling secured a lopsided decision win in the UFC Shanghai co-main event over a largely inactive Brian Ortega in what ultimately transformed into a 153-pound catchtweight fight on Saturday.

Sterling was really feeling himself in the third frame. The 36-year-old landed his jab at will, scored another low kick knockdown, and finished with a spinning elbow like the one Lerone Murphy KO’d Aaron Pico with at UFC 319 last weekend.

Before Johnny Walker knocked out Zhang Mingyang in the main event to send the local fans home unhappy, Sterling defeated Brian Ortega in their five-round contest, which became a catchweight bout on late notice owing to the former featherweight title challenger’s weight struggles.

Edgar, 43, hasn't competed since a first-round knockout loss to Chris Gutierrez at UFC 281 in November 2022.

The South Bay star spent part of the year “traveling to train” ahead of Saturday’s Shanghai showdown with the former bantamweight champion.
