Leeds United edged past Everton 1-0 in the final match of the 2025-26 Premier League season’s opening weekend. Lukas Nmecha rolled home a late penalty (84’) after James Tarkowski was adjudged to have handled it inside the box.
Leeds United kicked off their 2025-26 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over Everton at Elland Road. Whites boss Daniel Farke told BBC Sport "it was a really magic night" and a "top performance" from his side.
Despite dominating the first half at Elland Road, Daniel Farke’s side couldn’t turn possession to goals. Everton grew into the game during the second 45 minutes, but a controversial James Tarkowski hand ball resulted in a penalty which was expertly converted by the substitute and debutant Nmecha.
Lucas Perri's inclusion in the starting lineup is a statement of intent from Farke. The young goalkeeper, who has been touted as a rising star, brings fresh energy and potential to the Leeds defense. His performance will be crucial as Leeds aims to solidify its backline this season.
