Immigration authorities have detained about 50 children younger than 18 in the New York City area since January. At least 38 of them have been deported.

A 6-year-old Ecuadorian girl and her mother who had been living in Queens have been deported just before the girl was about to go back to school.

The 6-year-old girl, who was a student at P.S. 89, and her mother, were taken by ICE last week after a routine immigration check-in at 26 Federal Plaza.
