Update: 80,610 acres affected in San Luis Obispo County by Madre Fire, still 55% contained
Madre Fire initially started 1:07 p.m. July 2 in San Luis Obispo County, California. Since its discovery six days ago, it has burned 80,603 acres. A crew of 1,573 firefighters effectively contained 35% of the fire by Tuesday morning. The cause of it remains under investigation.

80,000-acre Madre Fire now more than 60% contained in SLO County
Firefighters have contained more than half of the Madre Fire that has burned through a swath of more than 80,000 acres of San Luis Obispo County grassland over the last week. Firefighter teams from Cal Fire and across San Luis Obispo County had ontained 62% of the fire as of noon on Wednesday, according to a post on X from Cal Fire.
