Ahead of the 2026 midterm elections this November, a new national survey from Emerson College Polling shows that 48% of likely voters support a generic Democratic candidate while 42% support a generic Republican.

Thirty-six states will elect governors in 2026, and Republicans enter those races clinging to a narrow 26-24 edge after Democrats had a strong showing in 2025, flipping Virginia and defending New Jersey.
