上午8時，行政長官李家超連同主要官員、行政會議非官守議員和公務員在政府總部東翼前地默哀三分鐘，沉痛哀悼在大埔宏福苑火災不幸罹難的人士。 來港協助展開救災工作的中央港澳工作辦公室、國務院港澳事務辦公室分管日常工作的副主任徐啟方；中央港澳工作辦公室、國務院港澳事務辦公室副主任、香港中聯辦主任周霽；中央港澳工作辦公室、國務院港澳事務辦公室副主任農融也有出席參與默哀。
被捕的七男一女介乎40至63歲，其中四人為宏福苑大維修工程顧問公司的兩名董事和兩名負責監督工程的項目經理；三人為棚架工程分判商，包括一對夫婦東主；一人為中間人。
為表達對大埔宏福苑火災罹難者的沉重哀悼，全港所有政府建築物及設施包括政府駐境外辦事處的國旗及區旗明日至下周一下半旗誌哀。其間，政府主要官員會取消非必要公開活動。所有由政府舉辦和資助舉行的娛樂及慶祝活動也會按情況取消或延期。
民政及青年事務局局長麥美娟表示，政府除了向每個受大埔火災影響的家庭發放一萬元應急錢，也會由下周起向每個受災家庭提供五萬元生活津貼；另會向每名死者的家屬發放20萬元慰問金。
