2 days ago · Lead is a toxic metal, used in plumbing for over 2,000 years, that contaminates drinking water through the corrosion of lead pipes and fittings. In Louisiana, a ban on lead pipes took effect in 1988 through the federal Safe Drinking Water Act. But the legislation did not mandate the removal of existing lead infrastructure.
