The mighty keep at Scarborough Castle. This spectacular three story structure was built by King Henry II in the 12th century as part of a massive building project that kicked off in around 1157. As part of this, the previous wooden castle complex was rebuilt in stone and the iconic Castle Keep we see today took shape. This remained largely in tact until the Civil War when the West wall was largely destroyed, with further damage being caused by two German warships in December 1914. . . . . #scarb
